In this section you will learn
- How this tutorial works
- Who this tutorial is for
A lot has been said about S88, since part one was released about ten years ago. Articles, papers, presentations, even some books talk about its history and merits.
But, we haven’t seen much material on-line really explaining the fundamentals of the standard. So, we thought we’d try our hand at creating a tutorial of part 1.
What will you learn in this tutorial?
Applying S88: Batch Control from a User’s Perspective
This amusing and easy to understand book covers all aspects of the S88 batch control standard.
Written from a user’s perspective, the authors discuss their implementation of the S88 batch control standard with examples.
This tutorial will cover many aspects of S88.01, but will not go very “deep” with explanations or examples. For the detail you may be seeking, a printed tutorial exists (see inset).
How does this tutorial work?
While S88.01 has several distinct parts, none are really independent. And so, there is not one best path of explaining the standard from one end to the other. Therefore, we have chosen a path that we think will work for this on-line tutorial.
Who is this tutorial for?
This tutorial is essentially for people new to S88 or curious about leveraging the standard. If you are somewhat familiar with S88 already, perhaps the tutorial will explain things a bit differently than what you have read in the past. This may help clear up some confusion that has lingered with you or this may give you ideas on how to better explain the standard to others.
We’ll begin with a short background (and history) of the standard. Let the ride begin.
